VPS Price in Bangladesh: What $1–$2.99 a Month Means in Taka
International VPS prices look confusing when you earn in taka. Here's what a $1–$2.99 container actually costs in BDT — and how to pay without an international card.
What the dollar prices mean in taka
Most international hosting is priced in US dollars, which makes it hard to judge whether a plan is cheap or expensive from Bangladesh. At the current exchange rate of roughly ৳120 per dollar (rates move, so check today's rate), a $1/month plan is about ৳120 a month and a $2.99/month plan about ৳360 a month.
To put that in context: a month of mobile data in Bangladesh costs around ৳300–500, and a few cups of tea cost more than a starter server. For the price of one or two snacks a month, you get a real Linux server that runs around the clock.
What you get for that money
The $1/month starter is 256 MB of RAM, 1 CPU core, and 5 GB of disk. The $2.99/month basic doubles the RAM to 512 MB and gives you 15 GB of disk. Both run at 100 Mbps with unmetered data — your bandwidth is never metered or billed separately.
The network model matters for students: your container has no public IP. It lives on a private network behind a gateway, you reach it over SSH with your own key, and nothing inside it is exposed to the internet — so you can experiment without becoming a target for scanners.
- $1/month (≈৳120): 256 MB RAM, 1 core, 5 GB disk — the floor plan
- $2.99/month (≈৳360): 512 MB RAM, 1 core, 15 GB disk
- 100 Mbps capped, unmetered data — no bandwidth bills
- No public IP on your container — nothing to scan or probe
The card problem, and the workaround
Stripe checkout needs an international card, and most cards issued in Bangladesh are domestic-only — they simply get declined. That's why the platform also accepts manual payment methods: pay by bKash, Rocket, Nagad, or bank transfer, and an admin approves it to unlock your account.
So the real cost for a Bangladeshi student is the plan price in taka, nothing else — no currency conversion fee, no hidden charges, no monthly bandwidth bill.
